Thinking about being more active, but not sure where to begin?

Our exercise referral programme has been designed to offer a tailored programme for adults in Southampton who meet certain referral criteria. These criteria are:

  • You do less than 30 minutes of activity which leaves you out of breath, five times per week.
  • You have a medical condition.

Structured guidance to allow you to begin a suitable activity programme whilst thinking about healthy lifestyle changes. We will also give advice on how to exercise safely as well as offer you any other information that you might find useful.

GOOD BOOST

Bitterne Leisure Centre

Good Boost is a water-based rehabilitation programme designed to be fun and beneficial for people with a range of health issues. 

What are the benefits? Research has shown aquatic rehabilitation programmes are beneficial for a range of conditions such as: 

*Back Pain

*Osteoarthritis

*Fibromyalgia

*And much more! 

Sessions are run weekdays at Bitterne Leisure Centre and cost just £6! Contact us today for more information.

WHAT IS THE GET ACTIVE EXERCISE REFERRAL PROGRAMME?
The Get Active programme has been designed to offer a structured health and well-being programme for adults in Southampton who meet certain referral criteria. These criteria are: You do less than 30 minutes of activity which leaves you out of breath, five times per week. You have a medical condition.
WHAT DOES THE PROGRAMME OFFER?
The programme offers you structured guidance to allow you to begin a suitable activity programme whilst thinking about healthy lifestyle changes. We will also give advice on how to exercise safely and offer you any other advice that you might need.
WHO CAN REFER TO THE PROGRAMME?
You can either self-refer onto the programme, be referred by somebody on your behalf or be referred by a health professional such as: GP, physiotherapist, practice nurse or health practitioner.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE REGISTRATION APPOINTMENT?
You will receive a tailored plan which could include access to Active Nation facilities or we may signpost you to activity programmes within the wider community. We will then follow up with you during the programme at 6 and 12 weeks to offer further support if you need it. Unlimited telephone support is included - so you're never left unsure what to do next.
ARE THERE ANY COSTS?
There is the option of purchasing an Active Nation subscription at the price of £50 for 12 weeks or alternatively by direct debit at a cost of £20 per month for 3 months. This will enable you to try the gym, swimming or classes deemed suitable on our current timetable at The Quays, Bitterne or Chamberlayne Leisure Centres. Community sessions, such as Hydro Aqua, are not included in this subscription - but your healthy living adviser will talk you through affordable options.
IS THERE ANY OTHER ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA?
Yes - you must live in Southampton (or surrounding areas) or be registered at a Southampton GP surgery. If you aren’t eligible we will direct you to other services.

Our programme can signpost to free activities within your local community, however most patients prefer to pay a one off fee to access our venues - this is as little as £50 which allows you to utalise Active Nation facilities during your 12 week programme.
