Generally, you will be ready for these courses if you have completed the RYA Basic SKills (Level 2) or RYA Better Sailing (Level 3) of the National Sailing Scheme for Adults.
For Youth Sailors, we recommend you have completed RYA Youth Stage 4 of the Youth Sailing Scheme, and have had some practice too!
The 2 day course is aimed at improving your technical sailing ability and will be run in our double handed sailing dinghies.
The emphasis of this course is on increasing the self-reliance and decision-making of the sailor, by spending time developing your boat handling and manoeuvring skills in a seamanlike manner.
Key learning points: coming alongside, man overboard recovery and reefing afloat.

The 2 day course introduces you to sailing with an asymmetric/symmetric spinnaker, providing opportunities to both helm and crew in our variety of double-handed dinghies.
Key learning points: hoisting, gybing, dropping the spinnaker, the best course downwind and how to recover from a capsize.

Our 2 day course allows you to explore one of our favourite past-times. Small boat cruising is a fantastic and relaxing activity, wherever you plan to cruise.
Key learning points: Equipment for Safety and Pilotage, Boat choice, setup and equipment stowage, Meteorology, Passage Planning, Pilotage in Practice and Buoyage.

Our 2 day course will improve your boat handling and confidence in performance dinghies.
It’s assumed that sailors will already be competent boat handling – probably at least one full season after completing the RYA Basic Skills (Level 2) course. We’d also recommend you have completed your Seamanship Skills and/or Sailing with Spinnakers advanced modules, too!

All specialist kit is provided – including Buoyancy aids and lifejackets and sailing dinghies specifically suitable for the Advanced Courses.
We have a selection of sailing dinghy’s, keelboats and accessible access dinghy’s available so that everybody can get afloat.
Our city-centre location means that SWAC is accessible from all major transport routes. Southampton also offers a host of affordable accommodation within walking distance of the Centre, and many local eateries – perfect for overnight stays.
Our sailing areas allow us to deliver a variety of courses and include the River Itchen, Southampton Water and The Solent.
