Rya FIrst Aid

Our one-day course covers all the usual first aid subjects, but from a boating perspective. It is aimed at anyone who goes afloat, whether on inland waters, rivers, estuaries or on cross channel passages. This course is MCA approved and satisfies the requirements for Coastal Skipper Yachtmaster and Advanced Powerboat certificates of competence and some commercial work afloat.

Required Experience: None

Duration: One day

Minimum age: None

Content: The recovery position in a confined space, CPR, including the drowning protocol, cold shock and hypothermia from immersion and/or exposure, seasickness and dehydration, medical assistance or advice by VHF, helicopter rescue.

Certificate issuing criteria: To achieve a working knowledge of first aid for people using small craft and to be able to support skippers of yachts and motor vessels.

Perfect for: Those joining Watersport/Outdoor Instructor courses, those requiring RYA/BC Instructor revalidations, those acquiring Coastal Skipper Yachtmaster and Advanced Powerboat certificates of competence.

Corporate first aid

During this 1 day course, Learners will develop the skills and knowledge needed to deal with a range of emergency first aid situations, including: managing an unresponsive casualty, CPR, choking, shock, wounds and bleeding and minor injuries.

Duration: One day

Content: This course provides basic life saving first aid skills and knowledge of workplace health and safety regulations, covering: Adult resuscitation (CPR), Burns and scalds, Choking adult, Communication and casualty care, Defibrillator prompts and how to respond (theory based), Defibrillator pad placement (theory based), Minor and severe bleeding, Role of the first aider (including knowledge of health and safety regulations), Seizures, Shock and Unresponsive adults.

Validation: The certificate lasts for three years, after which you will need to take another one day course or upgrade to the full HSE First Aid at Work Qualification.

This 3 day course is a Qualsafe qualification which is perfect for those operating within the work place. It is the standard qualification for First Aiders at Work and the Qualsafe badge is nationally recognised. This is also the minimum qualification for anyone wanting to become either an HSE or RYA First Aid Instructor.

Duration: Three days (either within our training rooms or for workplace bookings, we can come to you)

Content: This course includes practical and theoretical assessments on: Adult resuscitation (CPR), Allergic reaction, Asthma, Bone, muscle and joint injuries, Burns and scalds, Chest pains, Choking adult, Communication and casualty care, Eye injuries, Fainting, Head injuries, Defibrillator prompts and how to respond (theory based), Defibrillator pad placement (theory based), Low blood sugar, Managing an emergency, Minor and severe bleeding, Poisons and what to do if someone has been poisoned, Role of the first aider (including knowledge of health and safety regulations), Seizures, Shock, Spinal injuries, Stroke and Unresponsive adults.

Assessment: This course is assessed via practical work and multiple choice written papers.

Validation: The certificate lasts for three years. It can then be revalidated by a shorter 2-day course – allowing existing certificate holders to update. Get in touch with our lovely sales team to learn more about refreshers.

This two day course updates the skills required to be a nominated workplace first aider and renews the First Aid at Work certificate for another three years. Defibrillator training can be added as a “bolt-on” for those wishing to receive a certificate in the use of AED’s.

Duration: Two days (either within our training rooms or for workplace bookings, we can come to you)

Minimum age: None

Content: Course will provide updates on new techniques and First Aid protocol that has been developed. Your instructor will also refresh First Aid Skills covered in the First Aid At Work syllabus.  

Assessment: This course is assessed via practical and written assessment on the second day.

Validation: Upon successful completion, we’ll re-issue your certificate which is then valid for a further three years.
