LEARNING THROUGH ADVENTURE

For over 50 years, Woodmill has created the first opportunity for thousands of children to experience their first night away home, toasting their first marshmallows around a camp fire and experiencing their first night camping under the stars.  Through these experiences we’ve seen first-hand how residential trips bolster the curriculum, bring down barriers and create unforgettable memories which last a life time.

The centre is well equipped to cater for camping groups, with its secluded camping field, on site showers/toilets/kitchen and a classroom which can be used to as a dining space and we always have a member of the team who sleeps on centre.  The centre has 50 tents ranging from two person pop up tents to 8 person bell tents creating a great range of sleeping options.

Whether you’re looking to provide a ‘first camp’ experience or extend another programme, we have a range of packages to suit your needs, you’ll find our trips offer incredible value for money.

FAQs

We provide camping mats for children and all tents are single gender.  We have black out teacher tents which are interspersed between the children’s tents and sleep 2 to a tent. Teachers and children must all bring a pillow and a warm sleeping bag.

Our camping field is set within the secluded grounds of the activity centre.  The centre is accessible until 9pm daily then the main gates are closed creating a secure setting.  The camping field is naturally marked out by the boundaries of trees and buildings giving your children the freedom to roam and play on the filed as they wish.  A duty team manager sleeps on site every night and is on hand should you need anything.

We have a toilet block on site, which includes a teacher only toilet. We also have a self catering kitchen which includes a fridge, microwave and washing machine.  Within the self catering kitchen are power points to be able to charge up phones and other devices.

Catering is optional and you can make use of our fully stocked self-catering kitchen or let us take hassle away by going fully catered.

Kitchen

Our kitchen is fully equipped with:

  • Gas hobs and oven
  • Water boiler
  • Toaster
  • Fridge
  • Freezer
  • A basic set of pots, pans and cooking utensils.

Menu
The meals we provide offer a wide range of tasty and nutritious dishes which are attractive to children’s palates. To assist young people in selecting a balanced meal we serve generous portions of fruit, vegetables and salad with plenty of carbohydrate for energy.

A typical menu:
Breakfast:
Cereal, toast, fruit and yogurt. On week long residential options we include a simple hot option like eggs or bacon rolls.

Lunch:
We provide a self-service Sandwich station along with fruit, cake, crisps and a bar. On week long residential options we include a simple hot option like soup, pies, pasta or pasties.

Evening meal:
We provide a hot option which on single day visits is normally a BBQ and on week long residential options we will include several hot options including lasagna, meatballs, jacket potatoes, chicken and rice. We will also include a desert option.

We are always well stocked for squash and there is a plentiful supply of water.

While we will do our best to cater for special diets, it may not always be possible to meet all complex requirements such as organic-only diets or weight management programmes. Information relating to complex dietary requirements should be provided at the time of booking. Groups must state any individual dietary requirements on group details summary. We may not be able to make arrangements at short notice.
