Stand Up Paddleboarding

GET READY TO RIDE WITH OUR PATHWAY

BSUPA courses have been developed by some of the most experienced watersports instructors in the world – so you know you’re in the best hands!

This two hour introduction will normally be enough for most casual SUPers to get afloat and enjoying their new found hobby!

Our BSUPA qualified Instructor will show you the basics of the board and run through basic safety factors. You’ll spend most of the session afloat and on the board – hopefully realising what a fun and accessible sport SUP is!

During the course you will be given an introduction to how the weather and environment affects you, how to carry the board and paddle, paddling technique, different types of turns, self rescue, how to fall safely as well as how to plan expeditions and the basics of stance in surf.

The course is run in flat water (outside our centre on the River Itchen) and at the end of it, you will be presented with your BSUPA Level 1 Ready to Ride Certificate.

This next step enables the paddler to develop decision making and fundamental skills. for a variety of paddle trips

The Ready to Tour course is an introduction to the enjoyment of touring and exploring with your paddle board.

By the end of the course you should feel confident and competent in planning your own adventures and have a range of new skills to enjoy on the water.

More advanced paddle strokes will be covered and all the elements needed to safely execute your own tour. The course will also include a planned tour in order to give a realistic experience of the joys and challenges involved with SUP touring.

Sometimes, you’re not worried about a certificate or following a syllabus – you just want to paddle!

Our qualified instructors can join you on the water to help align your paddle stroke, master that step-back 360 turn or just be a friendly safety net if you’re a little nervous!
