Here from our regular Sailor, Kate about just how impactful Accessible Sailing has been, a little bit about her story and why you should give it a go!
Designed to remove the barriers that face many people with additional needs, these session provide tuition in the shape of progressive weekly sessions.
Sessions are delivered by a brilliant team of volunteers with a wealth of experience. We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to go sailing regardless of ability.
SWAC has accessible changing facilities, self righting access 303 sailing dinghies, Sonar Keelboats and a pontoon hoist to allow those of all abilities to make the most of the water that Southampton has to offer!
BRAND NEW for 2023, is our partnership with The Sailing Vision Trust. We will be working with SVT to host 2 incredible Taster Days at £30pp!
This taster will be a day in a Keelboat to familiarise visually impaired sailors with being on the water, which could lead to further sailing adventures with the trust, including a weeks’ cruise to Cornwall in July. During the Taster Days, you’ll get lunch on board your vessel, expert instructors and a brilliant experience out on Southampton waters!

SVT is a charity which enables visually impaired people experience the freedom and empowerment of watersports. The feel of the wind and waves, and the motion of a boat and its sails, are powerful senses which everyone can enjoy and learn to use.
SVT is a community that brings together visually impaired sailors and would-be sailors with sighted volunteer skippers and crew for support, camaraderie and adventures. We organise events at various levels, and develop technology specifically designed to enable the visually impaired sailing community to really “take the helm” !
