This two-day course provides the skills required when acting as an escort craft, safety boat or coach boat for a fleet of dinghies, windsurfers or canoes, or for racing or training activities.
It includes rescue techniques and elements of race management and mark laying and is suitable for those aged 16 years plus.
Basic understanding of sailing boats and windsurfers. RYA Powerboat Level 2 Powerboat Handling certificate must be held prior to this course.
The RYA Safety Boat course is delivered across two days at SWAC.

After completing this course at SWAC, you’ll be able to provide safety or support cover to a range of craft, particularly sailing or windsurfing.
Personal watercraft can be single-seater machines or can take two or three people. They are fast and exciting, but need to be handled with care.
Our PWC courses are delivered by our friends at Poseidon, from SWAC and are suitable for those aged 12 years plus.
There’s no assumed knowledge for this course.
Whether you just want to have a go on holiday or buy your own machine, the RYA Personal Watercraft course will teach you how to get the best from it. The course is designed for first time and experienced riders alike. Increasingly the certificate is required for launching in UK harbours, but is also needed if you want to use your PW abroad.
All new PWs are sold with a voucher towards the cost of this course and, once passed, you are issued with a certificate of proficiency.
This course, delivered by our friends at Poseidon, from SWAC, is a one day course.
The course will cover launching, handling and recovery skills, passage planning and decision making, high and low speed riding skills, essential safety information, collision avoidance and orientation at sea
Following this course, you’ll be self-sufficient in good conditions, aware of limitations of self and craft.
The minimum age for this course is 12 years. Certificates for children aged between 12 and 16 will be endorsed to show that they must use PWs only under the supervision of a responsible adult.
Designed in conjunction with the Professional Yachting Association (PYA) this course is intended to build upon your basic powerboating knowledge and skills.
Originally intended for operators responsible for ferrying passengers between Superyachts and the shore, this course is very useful for anyone operating a powerboat day or night with responsibility for carrying passengers. This course is suitable for those aged 17 years plus.
You should be competent to the standard of RYA Powerboat Level 2 Powerboat Handling. It is strongly recommended that you hold a first aid and VHF / SRC operators certificate.
This course is a two day course, delivered from SWAC.
This course will cover passenger safety and comfort, daytime pilotage, night time pilotage, emergency situations, associated theory.
Following this course, you’ll be confident undertaking short, ship-to-shore transfers by day and night.
