The British Canoeing Foundation Safety and Rescue Training (BC FSRT) course is for anyone starting out in Paddlesport who wishes to learn the basics of staying safe, as well as being a pre-requisite for the British Canoeing Paddlesport Instructor Award.
Training will take place on the Woodmill lake and you’ll use a wide variety of paddle sport craft and equipment as you work through a range of scenarios. You’ll cover a broad foundation of issues which may affect your safety and learn rescue techniques including options from the bank and boat.
This course is a pre-requisite for the British Canoeing Paddlesport Instructor Award, as well as being suitable for any active paddler.
The price includes your course certificate.
Candidates wishing to attend Foundation Safety and Rescue Training must meet the following requirements:
1. Able to swim in normal paddling clothing suitable for the prevailing conditions
2. Boat-based candidates must also hold the Paddle Explore Award, 2 Star Award or be of equivalent ability due to the paddling environment and the boat control required to complete the course
3. Bank-based participants accessing the course are not required to hold a Personal Performance Award. However, they should be prepared to fully participate in all relevant aspects of the course
A first aid certificate is not a pre-requisite. However holding a first aid certificate is strongly recommended for all paddlers.
