Local Hero – Tia Holder

Our local hero this month is Tia Holder from South Derbyshire, who has been selected to represent England at the ICO World Championships in Rome between 1st – 5th November 2018.

Tia has been training for nearly 10 years. She is an adult brown belt and will progress to her black belt after returning from Rome.

Kickboxing is an intense physical sport requiring explosive bursts of power  to effectively punch and kick the opponent.

Needless to say, a sport which places such high demands on the body requires a rigorous training schedule, and Tia’s is no exception.

In addition to kickboxing, Tia spends hours each week running, sparring, in group exercise classes and strength training in the gym.

As well as a packed training session Tia also finds time to train the junior kickboxing class at Greenbank Leisure Centre.

The physical benefits of Tia’s love of kickboxing are obvious; Tia is an athlete. However, kickboxing has also taught Tia discipline and self-defence and given her an inner confidence.

Her future aspirations are to achieve her black belt and become a world champion by winning gold in Rome.

Good luck Tia – we’re all rooting for you.
