Benefits Of Nuts & Seeds

If you are someone who takes their training seriously, then chances are that you are always on the lookout for the perfect snacks and foods to give you some healthy fuel.

Foods that you shouldn’t underestimate are seeds and nuts. But what makes them such an awesome thing to snack on during training times?

They pack a protein punch

If you train then you know that protein is important. It helps to make sure that you recover quickly and also develops and maintains all that muscle mass that you are working so hard to build up. When it comes to protein, there are some seeds that can really give you the boost that you need. One in particular is Shelled Hemp Seeds, which have 35g of protein for every 100g of seeds.

They can give you the energy that you need

When you train you work hard, which means that you will need to keep your energy reserves up. A great way to do this is with seeds and nuts, in particular pumpkin and sunflower seeds. These contain a high level of iron, which is what helps your blood to carry around the oxygen, keeping your muscles well stocked and ready to work hard.

A good source of fibre

During those times when you are working out, you need to make sure that your diet is just right. You may need to eat at certain times, and definitely make sure that your body is taking in all the important nutrients to help it to work well. One nutrient that really should feature is fibre. Fibre is vital for keeping your bowel regular, which helps you feel great inside. It is also a slow release source of energy keeping you fuller for longer, which means that you are much less likely to snack at times when you should be trying to be healthy. Seeds packed with fibre are Chia Seeds.

Get some Omega 3 Fatty Acids

Lots is said about why we should have Omega 3 Fatty Acids in our diet, and if you want to ensure that your cholesterol is just right as well as having a healthy heart, then this is one thing that you need to make sure that you take in. A good source of these acids can be found in Flaxseed, which is why you will often see this included in healthy bars and snack packs.

In order for you to enjoy seeds and nuts during your training periods, we need to keep growing them in the UK, something that the Tree Council are dedicated to promoting. So much so that from the 23rd September to the 23rd October, it is National Seed Gathering Season. This is when everyone needs to get out there and collect seeds, nuts and fruits from their local trees and make sure that they have what they need to grow the trees of the future.

So, if you value the power of seeds and nuts. Why not get involved and see what you can achieve?
