Thousands Take Part In The Active Nation Lincoln 10k
Thousand of people ran, walked, juggled and even carried a replica tank around the 18th Active Nation Lincoln 10k race over the weekend.
The elite athletes set the pace to be the first to cross the finish line, but there were plenty taking part in fancy dress including a knight in shining armour, Darth Vader, a Minion, Super Ted and so many more.
The course started at Active Nation’s Yarborough Leisure Centre and finished in the historic grounds of Lincoln Castle.
This year runners had the wind to contend with, resulting in slower times than in previous years. However, the atmosphere was amazing and the streets were lined with hundreds of people cheering on all of those taking part.
First across the finish line in the wheelchair race was Bret Crossley, 40, from Leeds, in 27 mins 27 secs.
The fastest male was Lincoln Wellington AC’s Richard Brown in 32 mins 10 secs.
Hull’s Jo Maddick, 26, was the fastest woman home in 36 mins 18 secs.
And Active Nation’s Rising Star Jade Etherington – just back from winning 4 medals at the Winter Paralympics in Sochi – made an impromptu guest appearance at the finish line to present medals and mingle with the crowds.
Active Nation is on a mission to persuade the nation to be active and so it was Brilliant to see more than 5,000 people putting their best foot forward on Sunday and completing their own personal challenges – often raising lots of money for charity. And to see Jade make an appearance on the finish line just helped to make a great day even better!
Massive congratulations to everyone who took part.
