Pupils Demonstrate Their Ability At SWAC’s Schools Regatta
Weather conditions hampered the bi-annual Schools’ Regatta at Active Nation’s Southampton Water Activities Centre – but not the spirits and ability of the 70 young sailors who took part.
Despite strong winds pupils from 3 local Winchester schools – The Pilgrims’ School, Prince’s Mead School and St Swithun’s School – all made it out onto the water.
The beginner fleet managed to fit in 2 races with Prince’s Mead getting to take the Regatta Fleet trophy back to their school.
The main fleet of intermediate sailors headed out on to Western Shelf, however the winds were too strong and racing had to be postponed. Later on, back in the river, relay races were held and The Pilgrims’ School won the trophy.
The Regatta also held an end of school term sailing presentation where St Swithun’s Junior School’s Lula Goldring took home the overall most improved sailor prize.
Max Bradbury-Knight, SWAC’s sports development leader and lead instructor said: “It has been brilliant to see all the sailors progress so well over their sailing terms with us.
“All of the staff team look forward to them returning week on week. It’s been a pleasure getting to know the schools, teachers and the sailors and I look forward to working with them all more in the future – keep up the good sailing!”
