Pupils Compete To Be Hailed Clayton Cup Champions
Active Nation was proud to host and organise an event which saw hundreds of school children and spectators have a fun and energetic time at the annual Clayton Cup competition.
Around 120 pupils from several local schools took part in the fun and games at Clayton Green Sports Centre in Chorley, including Lancaster Lane Community Primary School, St Bede’s Catholic Primary School, Manor Road Primary School, Clayton-le-Woods Church of England Primary School, Westwood Primary School, Whittle-le-Woods Church of England Primary School and Clayton Brook Primary School.
The Clayton Cup has been held in the parish for the last 20 years and Active Nation was pleased to organise and host the popular event at the sports centre on behalf of the Parish Council.
The event is highly competitive and everyone gets lots of training in beforehand to ensure they are on top of their game, sometimes visiting the centre for a sneaky practice or with Active Nation coaches running sessions at the schools.
The competition consists of various sporting team challenges, followed by a tug of war and finally a relay obstacle race.
More than 200 Supporters watched the competition which saw St Bede’s Catholic Primary School hailed as Clayton Cup Champions for the 2nd year running, Westwood Primary School won the Sportsmanship Award and Clayton-le-Woods walked away as tug of war victors.
Members of the Parish Council including Clerk to the Council Tracey Morris, Cllr Mick Muncaster and retired Clerk to the Council Eileen Whiteford, supported the event and presented the awards and trophies.
Well done to everyone who took part, school staff and Clayton Green Sports Centre staff who supported the event including Lesley O’Donoghue, Dan Porter, Dave Gregory and Elliot Dunn who helped to organise the event.
Sports programme manager Lesley said: “It was a great success and fantastic to see everyone involved in sport. As a charity we are on a mission to persuade the nation to be active and it really was wonderful to see so many people supporting the pupils as they gave it their all in the competition.”
