Persuading People To Get Up And Cycle
Bicycles took over the Chorley town centre as the town celebrated all things cycling as part of Chorley Council’s Get Up and Cycle event.
Lots of people turned out to take part in an array of cycling challenges – including Active Nation’s Trix Bike Fitness Test – and to find out more about the cycling groups and services that are available in the borough.
Throughout the afternoon, various people tested their fitness and pedal skills on Active Nation’s Trix Bike simulators, they picked up information from Chorley Cycling Club, were given a demonstration of how the Wheels for All Adapted hand bikes can help people with reduced mobility in their lower body and had their bike marked by Lancashire Police.
More than 40 people took part in two specially arranged Sky Ride Locals around Chorley, led by British Cycling Ride Leaders and children were treated to a trikes and pedal cars Grand Prix race on the Flat Iron.
Families also made their way over to Astley Park’s Walled Garden where the Ribble Valley Juniors cycling club set up a special course for youngsters.
Simon Clark, Head of Health, Environment and Neighbourhoods at Chorley Council, said: “It was fantastic to see people turn out for the Get Up and Cycle event, showing just how much enthusiasm there is for cycling in Chorley.
“Everyone seemed to enjoy the activities and we’re hoping it’s encouraged them to take up cycling and enjoy the beautiful surroundings of the Chorley borough.
“The Sky Ride Local proved popular for those taking part and the spectators too. The council would like to do more cycling activities and events in the future and we hope this event may attract a race or competition into the area, which would make a great spectacle for local people.”
