Olympic Star Jenny Jones Launches Active Nation Snowsports Club!
Winter Olympic bronze medallist Jenny Jones says Active Nation’s new Snowsports Club ‘will be amazing’ for youngsters in Southampton.
There was a huge buzz around Alpine Snowsports, Southampton, as hundreds of people attended the launch event and were given a rare chance to talk to snowboard superstar Jenny.
More than 60 young people took part in freestyle and alpine ski sessions as well as TRY ski and board lessons, with many set to carry on being part of the new club.
Jenny, who won a bronze medal in the Slopestyle in Sochi earlier this year, said:“I think a new satellite club will be amazing. It will give young people the chance to try a sport they normally wouldn’t do.
“Skiing and snowboarding are so different from traditional sports. Getting out there, jumping off things and speeding down the slopes is just so exciting!”
Jenny was joined by Southampton Olympic Snowboarder Billy Morgan and up and coming Paralympic skier Tom Murley.
The new Snowsports Club will run on Thursdays during term time from 5-7pm and is open to 11-18 year olds. It will take young people from trying snowsports for the first time, to developing their skiing or snowboarding skills in a bid to emulate their Winter Olympic heroes.
The Snowsports Satellite Club has been funded by Sport England’s Satellite Club initiative and facilitated by Sport Hampshire & IOW and Snowsport England.
Hayley Walker from Alpine Snowsports Southampton said: “I’ve never seen so many people getting so excited at the slope, it was an incredible feeling.
“It’s great that we have been able to open skiing and snowboarding up to young people in Southampton and make it accessible to all, we hope they keep coming back for more!”
