Olympic Hero Jenny Jones Is Coming To The Active Nation Slopes!
Winter Olympic bronze medallist Jenny Jones is coming to Active Nation’s Alpine Snowsports, Southampton to launch a new snowsports club aimed at 11-18 year olds.
Earlier this year, snowsports caught the imagination of the nation at the Winter Olympics in Sochi. So, who better to inspire and encourage the next generation of slope stars at the launch of The Snowsports Club than professional snowboarder Jenny?
The club will be officially opened on Thursday 30th October and will form part of a national initiative run by Snowsport England called ‘30 Days of Snowsport’ – designed to celebrate the start of the winter season and get people excited about snowsports!
For those inspired by Sochi 2014, The Snowsports Club launch will give young people the opportunity to experience skiing or snowboarding for the first time, or for those people who can already ski or snowboard there will be GO SKI GO BOARD TRY taster sessions in ski racing and freestyle. All sessions will be led by fully qualified instructors and will run alongside race and freestyle demonstrations from the experts.
As well as all of the slope activity there will be the chance to listen to Jenny talk about how she got into snowsports and her journey to the Winter Olympics – where she became the first Briton to ever win an Olympic medal in a snow event after winning bronze in the slopestyle.
Throughout the evening there will be music, competitions and a BBQ on offer for skiers and snowboarders who have worked up an appetite, or just for those watching. The Snowsports Club will run on Thursdays during term time from 5-7pm and slope time is open to 11-18 year olds, but parents and others are welcome to watch.
Priya Samuel, Snowsport England’s Satellite Clubs Development Manager, Hampshire & IoW said: “We are delighted that Winter Olympic Bronze medalist Jenny Jones will join us for the official launch of the Snowsports Satellite Club. Jenny inspired so many people with her performance in Sochi, and since then the appetite from young people to take up freestyle skiing and snowboarding has increased.”
Hayley Walker from Active Nation’s Alpine Snowsports Southampton said: “The Snowsports Club is aimed at giving 11-18 year olds the chance to try snowsports, continue their participation in a fun, safe environment. Snowsports is a great way to get fit and active without even realising it. We believe there is a real demand for a new club and hope to see a big uptake following the launch.”
Attendance for the launch event is absolutely FREE of charge, but please book in advance as places are limited. To book your place call the slope directly on 0300 0200 135 or email Hayley.walker@activenation.org.uk.
