Natalie To Run The Active Nation Lincoln 10k In Memory Of Her Mum
The death of her mum has led one inspirational woman to join Yarborough Leisure Centre and sign up to run the Active Nation Lincoln 10k in memory of her ‘best friend’.
Natalie Bogusz’s mum Michell Pedge died from a brain tumour in November, she was just 49 years old. Despite still grieving and missing her mum terribly, Natalie has decided to help raise awareness and fundraise for The Brain Tumour Charity by getting active and tackling personal challenges.
She said: “My amazing Mum collapsed at the beginning of September last year and was rushed to A&E. A few hours later my family were taken into a side room and told the heart-breaking news that my Mum had a brain tumour.
“Over the next few weeks, after going between Sheffield Royal Hallamshire Hospital and Lincoln Hospital, the news seemed to go from bad to worse.
“8 weeks and 1 day after diagnosis the best friend I will ever know, my Mum, went to rest with the Angels.”
Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of children and adults under 40, yet Natalie says that research is chronically underfunded, which is why she has decided to run in aid of The Brain Tumour Charity.
This is the UK’s largest dedicated brain tumour charity, committed to fighting brain tumours on all fronts. They fund scientific and clinical research into brain tumours and offer support and information to those affected, whilst raising awareness and influencing policy.
Natalie, 25, added: “I want to raise money so others will have a fighting chance to hold on to their loved ones! I want to change the statistics.
“My mum would think I am absolutely insane for running the 10k as she knows how bad I am at running. But, I know she will be with me every step of the way, cheering me on as I run.”
Natalie will be running alongside her friend Helen Halfyard and her partner Alastair Pamment and family friend Kev Monaghan and his daughter Roxanne. She is also planning to do the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge in May with her mum’s cousin Sarah Pedge and her daughter India North-Pedge.
She added: “My friends and family are so proud of me and are being so supportive, especially as I’ve never done anything like this before. It’s giving me such a buzz I really want to do as many charity events as I can now.”

Thank you Active Nation for all of your support.
I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of the 10k (I have to say the supporters cheering on the side lines really helped).
I have absolutely smashed my fundraisig target and I feel on top of the world. I am now looking forward to walking the Yorkshire 3 peaks on May 17th.
