Karen’s 100km Nightrider Cycle Challenge To Help The Elderly
A charity worker is hoping to raise lots of cash by cycling 100km around London at night in a bid to help tackle loneliness among the elderly.
Karen Seale says her part-time job at Brendoncare Clubs has inspired her to take up the Nightrider London challenge in a bid to help others.
Nightrider London is an exciting 100km moonlit cycle ride past London’s iconic landmarks including St Paul’s Cathedral, Canary Wharf, the Olympic Stadium, the London Eye and so many more. While the capital sleeps, over £2 million will be raised in 1 night for hundreds of good causes. The first ever Nightrider™ London took place in 2010 with 300 cyclists, since then it has grown to over 4,000 cyclists in 2013.
Karen, who is a Supporter at The Quays in Southampton, said: “I love cycling and I was born in London, so this seemed like a great way to raise some money for the charity I work for – Brendoncare Clubs.
“We have care homes and run social clubs for older people throughout Hampshire, Poole and Dorset. I very much care about lonely older people and really enjoy my work in the clubs service.”
This isn’t the first time the 58-year-old has got on her bike to raise money for charity. She added: “My friends and family are used to me doing stuff like this, I am also doing a couple of other rides for the British Heart Foundation and Animals in Asia.
“I’m not fit by any means, after a long winter on the sofa though its time to get my finger out and improve my fitness levels, lose some weight and have some fun!! I have been busy swimming and cycling every moment I can, trying to lose some weight and gain some muscle, especially in my legs and shoulders.
“I do have a just giving page for my efforts, if anybody would like to sponsor me for a few pounds I’d be most grateful!”
