Creating A Racquet At Green Bank Lesiure Centre
A racquet is set to be created at Green Bank Leisure Centre after two squash courts were given a facelift.
Paint interrupted play over the past fortnight as contractors set about creating a fresher feel for players to enjoy.
Improved lighting is now in place, markings are much clearer and a new lease of life has been given to the walls and floors.
It is hoped the refurbishment will encourage even more people to turn their hand to the fast paced sport.
Keen squash player Frank McArdle, the Chief Executive of South Derbyshire District Council, said: “Squash is a superb way to get healthy and have fun.
“Providing quality, fit for purpose and modern facilities such as these help to create an attractive and appealing environment in which to enjoy the sport.”
The works, costing £6,000, are part of the continued investment programme planned for the Green Bank Leisure Centre.
Plans in the pipeline include refurbishing the entrance, reception and café area over the months to come to offer a warmer welcome.
Other projects include modernising the dry side changing rooms and creche, providing extra fitness space and creating a new sauna and dance area.
The refurbishment, worth £500,000, is being made possible by funding from the district council, Active Nation and Sport England.
Councillor John Lemmon, chairman of housing and community services at South Derbyshire District Council, said: “This investment demonstrates our commitment to providing the very best leisure services in South Derbyshire.
“We are delighted to be moving forward with these improvements, which will benefit our existing customers – including sports clubs – and inspire, encourage and motivate others to come and have a go.”
The proposed timeline for the changes will be announced in the near future.
