BRILLIANT at helping the nation to be active
Active Nation’s mission is all about persuading the nation to be active and we couldn’t do that without some BRILLIANT members of staff.
Here are just a few of the team who have been recognised as making a massive difference in helping others to take up sport and exercise at our All Seasons Leisure Centre in Chorley.
Every week throughout the school year hundreds of primary school pupils walk through the centre’s doors to learn one of life’s important milestones – how to swim. Thanks to the efforts of Jean Moffatt, more and more children are mastering this skill which could one day save a life.
Sports programme manager Lesley O’Donoghue said: “Jean has done a fantastic job of growing and excelling our school swimming programme within Active Nation. We have a phenomenal amount of schools visiting our centre each week and every year Jean delivers a world class curriculum to our Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 children.”
Jean can’t succeed in her mission on her own and is helped by many other members of the swim team, including swim teacher Harry Walsh. Lesley added: “Harry has gone above and beyond this year to support our Learn to Swim programme. He has been flexible, committed and driven to succeeding as a swim teacher and without Harry we couldn’t have got so many children involved in swimming. He has contributed to our programme like no other!”
As well as persuading people to be active, Active Nation is always looking at ways to enable more and more people to take up sport, including our disabled supporters. Since the end of September, Kirsty Bancroft has been key in introducing a very popular and successful disability trampolining course. Lesley said: “Kirsty has introduced disability trampolining to our centres and enabled those less able to get involved in this sport. We now have more than 30 regular participants in this sport and have opened up a new avenue to get involved in sport for disability users!”
Introducing kids to sport and exercise is also key to our work and so are the enthusiastic staff that run the programme. Cassy Scott is one such member of the team. Lesley added: “Cassy has supported our junior activity programme in everything from, parties, sports camp, junior sports and campaigning for all of the above! She is an asset to our team who is multi-talented and helped our junior offering grow! More sports means more young people getting active.”
If you have been inspired or motivated by a member of our team and feel they deserve some recognition please get in touch. For more information about what we have to offer at Active Nation, give your local centre a call.
