Youth Canoe Club: Confidence Through Adventure
Our Youth Canoe Club is perfect for children who are ready to take their paddling skills to the next level. Fully supervised by our qualified instructors, these sessions follow our Paddler Development Programme and introduce participants to a variety of paddlesport disciplines.
What You’ll Need
If you’ve paddled before, you’re in the right place! If not, why not start with our Kayak or Canoe Hire to get a feel for it?
We provide all specialist kit and equipment. However, we recommend bringing:
• A change of clothes
• A bottled drink
• Your own paddling clothing (optional)
Itinerary
January Highlights:
• Games, Games, Games: Enjoy action-packed sessions full of water-based games that teach essential paddling skills while having fun.
• Moving Water: Learn how to handle a kayak or canoe on moving water, tackling skills like breaking in and out of the flow and ferry gliding.
• Kayak Skills: Master paddling techniques, from forward paddling to more advanced skills, aligned with the British Canoeing Discover Award.
• Kayaking Next Steps: Progress your paddling skills with a focus on edging, hanging draws, and recovery strokes.
February Adventures:
• Tandem Canoe Skills: Work with a partner to perfect teamwork and communication as you paddle a tandem canoe.
• Raft Building: Get creative! Build and race your own raft using barrels, poles, and ropes in this wet and wild session.
• Solo Canoe Skills: Develop your solo canoeing expertise with manoeuvres and teaching tips to share with others.
• White Water Rafting: Take on the thrill of inflatable rafts in whitewater, practising teamwork and paddling techniques.
March Challenges:
• SUP Skills: Learn the basics of stand-up paddleboarding or improve your skills in a friendly, supportive environment.
• Kayaking Next Steps: Build on advanced kayaking techniques needed for the Explore Award.
• Kayak Moving Water: Put your flat-water skills to the test as you tackle whitewater challenges with ferry gliding and edge control.
• Raft Building: Once again, test your creativity and teamwork with fun and competitive raft-building challenges.
• White Water Rafting: Team up and paddle inflatable rafts in exciting whitewater conditions – teamwork and fun guaranteed!
