Most health guidelines reckon 30 minutes of exercise, five days a week, is enough to significantly improve your health. We say, ‘it all adds up’ – whether you swim for 10 minutes, play table tennis or walk on a treadmill for five minutes. Once you’ve experienced the buzz of getting active, you’ll soon find you’re hitting that recommended 30 minutes.
The Active Nation Exercise Referral Scheme has been designed to offer a structured & supervised specialist exercise programme for adults in Southampton to enable them to achieve physical activity levels beneficial to their health.
What is the Active Nation Exercise Referral Scheme?
The Exercise on Referral Scheme is a 10 week programme that a GP has referred you in to. It aims to increase your activity levels to help improve your condition and lifestyle.
Specially trained staff will devise an individual activity plan that is suitable for you and will help you reach your goals.
You will receive two mini health check-ups, one at the start of your 10 weeks and one at the end. This will include non invasive measurements such as height and weight and a blood pressure reading. We won’t ask you to take any clothes off or have any measurements that you are not comfortable with.
You can take part in a range of supervised activities (e.g. Aqua fit, Pilates, Low Impact Circuits, Gym & Health Walks) either in one of our leisure venues or in the local community.
Depending on your exercise requirements there may be a cost implication; this will be agreed at your first appointment.
Active Nation Exercise on Referral Scheme will run across three venues; The Quays Swimming & Diving Complex, Bitterne Leisure Centre and Chamberlayne Leisure Centre. You can either choose to use one venue or a mixture of all three.
How do I get started?
In order for you to be accepted on to the scheme your GP will have to send a referral form to us. Once this has been accepted we will contact you directly to arrange your first appointment at a venue of your choice. This will take approximately 30 minutes and is an opportunity to meet with you and talk through the scheme in more detail.
