Local Hero – Christin Parker

Christin from ActiveAbility Southampton is our local hero this month. The passion for his inclusive exercise has meant that regional competition is now on the cards, only a few months after taking up inclusive cricket sessions, by Active Nation. Below we share Christin’s story. Congratulations, great work – we’re all very proud of what you’ve achieved.

For one ActiveAbility participant, Active Nation’s programme of activities became a way of life, a pathway and right of passage. Christin Parker, who learnt to play cricket at ActiveAbility Southampton’s coached cricket sessions, always looked forward to Mondays and the socialising that came with them. Before long, Christin realised that the session was not just some fun with friends, but a time to practice a real talent that he had discovered – helping Christin become a local hero.

After only a few months of coaching, Christin was told that he has been selected into the Hampshire Senior Disability Squad, something that Maxwell Bradbury-Knight, Active Nation’s Partnerships Manager is very proud of – “To see a participant grow within an Active Nation community activity programme, is why I’m so passionate about our mission. Our flexible approach to sport and physical activity allows us to challenge convention and grasp sporting potential with both hands – the Active Nation team are all very proud of what Christin has achieved so far and look forward to supporting him more in the future.”

Christin followed his selection with winter training which completed with a finale on April 22nd, where Christin enjoyed competing for Hampshire – a brilliant achievement. During this day we saw the launch of the Hampshire Yorks County Championship Fixture. Summer training is now ongoing and will be followed by inter-county games and tournaments.

Hampshire Cricket Board Ltd (HCB) is responsible for all recreational cricket in the county. They work closely with the ECB, Southern Electric Premier League, Hampshire Cricket League, District Cricket Associations and affiliated clubs ‘to provide a cricketing future for all’

ActiveAbility Southampton are on a mission to make sport and exercise accessible to all. We’re powered by Active Nation who campaign nationally to increase participation in sport and exercise because regular physical activity can help to reduce and manage over 20 chronic diseases such as Type II Diabetes, Coronary Heart Disease and some forms of Cancer.
